Terms of Use and Privacy Policy

General Scope

This policy covers personally identifiable information collected or stored by the SEC Professionals Community (the Community) on this site.

The private collaborative nature of the Community

The Community allows registered members to voluntarily post their personally identifiable contact and other information on this site so that other registered members can reach each other to discuss matters of common interest. Access to such personally identifiable and other information collected or stored on this site is restricted to the registered members of the Community and users with administrative authority for the site. Anonymous and/or non-member users are not permitted to access personally identifiable information on this site.

Purpose of the collection of private information

The Community limits the collection of personally identifiable user data to purposes which serve the well-being of its members, including but not limited to the following:

To enhance the usefulness of the Community to its members. The purpose of this site is to facilitate communication between members of the Community on matters of common interest. Registered members may use contact information posted by other members to contact those members. Registered users should feel comfortable that any personally identifiable information that they post to this site is not made available to others who are not members of the Community or users with administrative authority for the site.

To provide site statistics. Users with administrative authority for this site may view log data from users' visits to produce site statistics pages. Neither the raw log data nor the site statistics pages shall be made available to the public.

To solve technical problems. Log data may be examined by users with administrative authority for the purpose of solving technical problems that may inhibit the performance of the site.

To prevent abuse. The Community recognizes that any system that is open enough to allow the unhindered participation by its members may be vulnerable to certain kinds of abuse and counterproductive behavior. For that reason, the Community may establish mechanisms to prevent or remedy abusive activities, including, but not limited to vandalism, harassment of other users, or disruptive behavior. In such cases, the IP addresses of users (derived either from those logs or from records in the database) may be used to identify the source(s) of the abusive behavior. This information may be shared by users with administrative authority who are charged by the Community with protecting the integrity and privacy of this site.

Editing information

Only registered members are permitted to edit their own personally identifiable information.

IP and other technical information When a visitor requests, reads or edits information on a page or sends email to the SEC Professionals server, the Community may keep logs of such transactions, including IP and other technical information about the user. This information may be released by the Community volunteers or users with administrative authority for the site in any of the following situations:

  • In response to a valid subpoena or other compulsory request from law enforcement,
  • With permission of the affected user,
  • When necessary for investigation of complaints of abuse, including unauthorized changes to another member’s personally identifiable information.

Except as described above, the Community does not disclose IP and other technical information about users.

Page history

Edits or other contributions to information on the site are generally retained forever. Removing text from a project does not permanently delete it. Even if personally identifiable or other information is "deleted", a user entrusted with higher level of access may still see what was removed from the view other members. Information can be permanently deleted by users with certain administrative privileges. However, aside from the rare circumstance when the Community is required to delete editing-history material in response to a legitimate legal process, there is no guarantee any permanent deletion will happen.

Other links

This site may contain links to other websites. The Community has no control over and is not responsible for the content or privacy policies of such sites. We recommend you read the privacy policy of each site you visit.

If any member feels that their information has been handled improperly or in a manner that does not comply with this privacy policy, please contact us by e-mailing to info@SECProfessionals.org, or by calling (650) 353-4183.
