Nashville

Chapter Notes

Welcome to the Nashville chapter of the SEC Professionals Group!

In the event you checked the webiste and noted a meeting today at 4:15 pm CST to play the Q2 webcast, I wanted to inform you that this is cancelled.  The live meeting was held on Tuesday, May 21st at 11:15 am CST.  The online meeting is accessed on the SEC Professionals Pro Group website. To find the webcast, login to secprofessionals.org, hover over the Events tab at the top and click upcoming.  There will be an option to "Watch Webcast." The stream will last an hour, providing members with an opportunity for 1 CPE credit.

Location: Cancelled

This quarter's meeting will allow us to hear a panel discussion on speed and accuracy in the financial close process.

The struggle to achieve both speed and accuracy in the financial close process can be challenging. Major stakeholders want the information as fast as possible, but they also need data they can trust. Those working on the close may feel as if they're in a catch-22: pushed to work faster, but with no errors. During this meeting, members will share how they improved the efficiency and effectiveness of their close process by improving internal communications and leveraging technology.

After this meeting, attendees will be able to:

  • Identify pain points in their financial close process
  • Explain tactics or methods other members used to improve their financial close process
  • Determine ways to leverage technology to simplify and expedite the financial close process
  • Develop performance metrics to evaluate your close process

One CPE credit will be offered, compliments of Workiva, our national sponsor. Please invite your colleagues to join us—the content will be especially valuable for your colleagues involved in the financial close.

Panelists
  • Trish Coughlin, Chief Accounting Officer, Cornerstone OnDemand
  • Eric Greene, Senior Manager of Technical Accounting and Financial Reporting, ZAGG
  • Alexander Hume, Controller and Principal Accounting Officer, Zions Bancorporation
  • Jonathan Johnson, President, Medici Ventures, Inc.

Moderator: Steve Soter, Salt Lake City Advisory Chair

Our chapter goal is to represent the greater Nashville community with an SEC reporting forum that promotes best practices and networking opportunities among SEC and external financial reporting professionals.

The jobs we do as SEC reporting professionals are unique, we have our own language and our own deadlines. Our group shares our common experience and provides information on Best Practices.

The SEC Professionals Group continues to grow and flourish. Please reach out to Nashville Advisory Chair Melissa Kilroy (melissa.kilroy@delekus.com) or sponsor Lucia Murff if you would like to learn more. The organization has over 7000 members nationally with 35 local chapters.  As you make plans this coming year,  think about how you can become more involved and active in our local chapter.  As a member driven organization, we need your input. (camille.rudy@secprofessionals.org)  if you have an interest in becoming more involved or would like to help with the Nashville Chapter.
